Just weeks after donating 75 acres of farmland to the Gorham Historical Society, Jim Eddy, 93, of Barstow Road in White Rock has passed away.

Gorham Police Chief Ron Shepard confirmed that Eddy passed away on Monday and requested that he not have an obituary but that he be cremated and his ashes strewn on the property. A representative from Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel in Gorham confirmed that Eddy had died.

Before his death, Eddy donated the land and the old New England farmhouse on the property with the wish that it be enjoyed by Gorham residents for trout fishing and other recreational uses including cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Eddy also wished that the land remain a working farm and that he and his nephew, John McCarthy, 64, be granted lifetime residency there. Eddy farmed until a year ago when declining health prevented him from farming.
