Newcomer Ann Peoples has defeated Lyle Cramer in the race for House District 125 in Westbrook. Peoples, a Democrat, defeated the Republican candidate, 1,882 votes to 1,541.

Peoples said she was pleased but not surprised by the result, having worked hard on her campaign. She said she also had a great team behind her. “I would have felt horrible for them if I hadn’t won,” she said late Tuesday night.

Peoples, a mother of five and Westbrook resident for 30 years, reiterated her campaign promise to take time to learn the ropes in Augusta before trying to exert her will on the Legislature.

“I will listen a lot,” she said. “I hope I can make the people of Westbrook proud.”

Cramer is a longtime middle school guidance counselor turned blueberry farmer who has lived in Westbrook for 35 years. Cramer ran unsuccessfully for both the Senate and House before seeking another seat in the house this year.
