Boys Varsity Basketball
Coach: Rick Simonds, (fourth season)
Winter 2005-06 Record: 11-7
How did last season end: Overtime prelim loss to Kennebunk
Key veterans: “We return four starters and will be considered as one of the top teams in Western A. Anthony Atkins is a 6’4” forward who is one of the region’s best players. He can shoot, is an excellent passer and has deep range. Another player who has a chance to go on and play college basketball is Scott Proudman. He is the quickest player in this area and is an excellent “finisher” in transition. This left-handed guard is a superb defender. Mike Harmon will begin at the point guard position after a pre-season injury. He has worked very hard during the off-season to improve his skills. Mike will also be a leading scorer. James Hanley is the returning center back for his third season. The captain is an National Honor Society student who has improved each year.”
Key newcomers: “Two newcomers destined to improve the Scots fortunes are Nate Doehler and Rich Harvey. Both guards, they are heady, athletic and winners.
Coach’s outlook: “We have the ability and depth to play with anyone this season. With Anthony and Scott we have two explosive scorers and excellent team speed and athleticism. We need to make better decisions than in the past, protect the ball, and stay focused on the court and in the class room. It should be an enjoyable and exciting winter in Standish.”
Girls Varsity Basketball
Coach: Sue Rondeau, (First season at Bonny Eagle. She spent one year as assistant to Mike McDevitt at Saint Josephs College, and three years as assistant to Ed Feeny in Portland)
Winter 2005-06 Record: 10-8 Regular Season – defeated Kennebunk in regional prelim, but then lost to top-seeded Sanford in quarterfinal play.
Key veterans: Lyndie Libby, Sr. Captain, PG; Meghan Ledoux, Sr. Captain, G; Laura Bell, Sr. Captain, F,; Amanda Tracy, Sr. G/F; Lacey Whitehouse, Sr., F; Kelsey Howes, Jr., F.
Key newcomers: Messina Provencher, So., G; Alyssa Severance, So., G.
Coach’s outlook: “The Scots should have plenty of leadership returing four out of the five starters from last season. At this time there’s four Seniors and one Junior starting. Lyndie Libby, Laura Bell, Meghan Ledoux and Amanda Tracy make up the four seniors along with returning starter Junior Kelsey Howes. Lacey Whitehouse, a Senior should be seeing plenty of playing time being one of the first off the bench. Messina Provencher and Alyssa Severance could see a good amount of playing time at the guard position depending on how quickly they adjust to playing Varsity. There’s plenty of leadership and talent in the rotation, the success of the season will depend on them learning how to work together.”
Boys Varsity Swimming
Coach: Laura Branch (Fifth season at BE, 20-plus seasons overall)
Last Season: The boys team had a very small squad
Key veterans: Corey McGrath, Sr., Ian Crossman, Sr., Greg Yum, So.
Key newcomers: “Our newcomers have a lot of talent and I am looking forward to working with them for the rest of the season and upcoming – very hard workers”
Coach’s outlook: “My goal for all my kids is that everybody can try and make the cut for state championships and to improve their best times. Every meet they win in something.”

Key newcomers: “They are all hard workers. I am surprised how quickly these kids have gotten down to swimming and they really seem to enjoy.”
Coach’s outlook: “Like the boys, I want my girls to do as well at states as they have in the past. I’d like my daughter (Hannah) to continue her past success, and more kids to make cut times for states.”
Boys Varsity Indoor Track
Coach: Greg Wilkinson (16th season)
Last season: Won the Southwesterns and became Class A State Champions.
Key veterans: Seniors: Evan Semle, Joe Bailey; Juniors: Murphy Doughty, Tyler Shortsleeve, Noah Schoneberg; Sophomores: Nick Winslow, Jamie Ruginski, Justin Denney.
Key newcomers: Ethan Rouse, Caleb Gosselin, Josh Ruby, Mitchell Boulette, Jon Simard.
Coach’s outlook: “We lost a very talented senior class, not just athletically, but scholastically as well. Our team goal is to be competitive throughout the regular season, establishing self-confidence in our mainly young, but very eager squad, while hopefully qualifying individuals to compete at the State Meet, allowing them to gain experience, for their future years of competition.
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey
Coach: Dave Petterson (third season); Assistant Coach: Roger Morse (fourth season)
Winter 2005-06 Record: 11-8-0
How did last season end: Knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by Gorham.
Key veterans: Nate Jewell, Sr., wing (40 goals last year, second- team all-state); Cody Bradway, Sr., G (second-team all-state); Kayle Hamilton, Jr., D (second-team all-state); Travis Dunn, So., C (29 Goals last year).
Key newcomers: CJ Blanchard, Fr., D.
Coach’s outlook: “We had no seniors last season so we’re coming back with all of last year’s players plus a few new ones. This should give us more skills, experience and strength than we had, along with more players to utilize – including two more goalies. Last year we only ran two lines, but this year we should be using three in many games. Our schedule looks a little tougher than last year but I think we’re ready for that. As freshman, this senior class had a record of 2-18-0. They’ve progressed to last year’s 11-8, and I expect to see further improvement this year.”
