A recount of ballots for a Gorham town council seat will get under way at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.
Former Town Council Chairman Norm Justice, who was edged by five votes for one of three available terms, requested the recount.
In a field of eight candidates, Phillip Csoros and Burleigh Loveitt were the top vote-getters. Matt Robinson was third with 1,182 and Justice tallied with 1,177. Loveitt has been elected council chairman.
Justice and Robinson will review the ballots in the recount before Gorham Town Clerk Christina Silberman feeds them into a voting machine. She said any questioned ballots could be hand-counted.
“It could take all day,” Silberman said Tuesday.
The town council will convene as referee for any disputed ballots.
The recount request, in a letter Nov. 23 to Silberman from Justice, followed an inspection of ballots, voter lists and tally tapes on Nov. 19.
