Westbrook’s city administrator will be recognized by the Portland Regional Chamber later this month.

Jerre Bryant, 54, is this year’s recipient of the Neal W. Allen Award for leadership in the public sector.

Peter Ventre, chairman of the Portland Regional Chamber, said Bryant was a “natural fit” for the award because of the work he has done in economic development in the area during the past 25 years as city manager in South Portland, general manager of the Maine Mall, and, for the past six years, as city administrator of Westbrook.

Originally from Norway, Bryant graduated from Colby College in 1976 and earned a master’s degree in public administration from University of New Hampshire in 1978. He now lives in South Portland with his wife Kimberly and their three daughters.

Ventre listed developing parts of South Portland around the Maine Mall, redeveloping the Dana Warp Mill and bringing Idexx to Westbrook as important projects for the region in which Bryant has been involved.

“It’s always nice to get recognized,” Bryant said last week.

He will be presented with the award at the chamber’s annual dinner on Sept. 25.
