Westbrook opened its fall baseball season with a doubleheader against Sanford on Aug. 31. After a 7-7 tie in the first game, Westbrook pounded out a 12-3 win in the second game.

In the first game, Chad Egeland helped Westbrook open up a 6-2 lead with a three-run triple in the second inning. Sanford came back to knot the score at 6-6 after the fourth inning. Egeland scored Westbrook’s last run in the top of the final inning after reaching base with a double to put Westbrook ahead, but Sanford came back to tie the score in the bottom of the final inning. Scott Heath and Adam Slivinsky each had an RBI for Westbrook. Sharing pitching duties for Westbrook in the first game were Heath, Zach Collett and Egeland.

In the second game, Westbrook got off to a fast start, scoring five runs in the first, four runs in the second and three runs in the third to build a commanding 12-0 lead. The hit parade was lead by Jake Gardiner, Collett, Sean Murphy and Egeland, who all had two hits apiece in the game. Sean Murphy and Adam Slivinsky shared the pitching load. Between the two hurlers, Sanford was held to two hits.

On Sept. 7, Westbrook will play a doubleheader against Bayside at 10 a.m. at Haverty Field in Portland.
