Help needy stay warm

Planning is under way for a benefit concert, “Music to Warm the Heart,” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, in Westbrook High School auditorium.

The Westbrook Interfaith Community is sponsoring the event with proceeds to benefit the Westbrook Fuel Assistance Fund. Concert performers will include John O’Hara, Sidecar Heroes, Betty McIntyre, Different Drummers Drum Circle, Kinda Blue Jazz Combo, Lisa Gallant Seal and Dan Merrill.

Tickets, available at Westbrook City Hall, Westbrook Hannaford, Vineyard Christian Fellowship and Trinity Lutheran Church, are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

City sets special waste collections

Westbrook Public Services has scheduled two special trash collections on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Residents can drop off household hazardous chemicals, including oil-based paints, stains, degreasers, fluorescent light bulbs and antifreeze, at the high school football field parking lot from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Televisions, computers and monitors can be dropped off at the public services garage from 8 a.m.- noon, with a limit of two items per household.

These collections are free of charge and for Westbrook residents only. Proof of residency will be required. For more information on items that will be accepted at the collections, visit the city’s Web site, www.westbrookmaine.com.

Democrats meet Wednesday

The Westbrook Democratic City Committee will meet at the Westbrook Public Safety Building on Wednesday at 6 p.m. All party members are welcome.

St. Pierre, Branigan engagement

Ann-Marie St Pierre and Andrew Branigan have announced their recent engagement.

She is the daughter of the late Gerard and Cecile St. Pierre of Westbrook.

Branigan is the son of Fran Branigan and the late Andy Branigan of Lincoln, R.I.

St. Pierre is employed at Maine Medical Center in the out patient clinic as a registered nurse. Branigan is a clinical pharmacist and is employed in the outpatient oncology unit at Central Maine Medical Center.

The wedding is planned for Sept 26, 2009.

Bernstein, Lessard wedding

Katie Bernstein and Andrew Lessard were married in June at the Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor.

The ceremony was attended by 110 family and friends.

The bride is the daughter of Robert and Bonnie Bernstein of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She graduated from Boston University with a bachelor science degree in advertising.

The groom is the son of Jerry and Julie Lessard of Westbrook. He graduated from Westbrook High School and Boston University with bachelor of arts and master’s degrees in economics.

They live in Pittsburgh, Pa., where she is employed by American Eagle Outfitters and he by Fedex Ground.

Sky to speak

Rabbi Harry Z. Sky will speak at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Westbrook, 719 Main St.

Sky is an author, educator and rabbi emeritus at Temple Beth El in Portland.

Receives degree

Matthew Dubois graduated in May from Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.

Dubois, who earned a bachelor of science degree from the college’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, is the son of Westbrook residents Daniel and Denise Dubois.
