In unmarked cars, Westbrook police patrolled the city Saturday night in search of underage drinkers.
Officers stopped Corrie Brown, 18, of Gorham and cited her for illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor. A large amount of alcohol was seized that police suspect would have made it into the hands of other minors.
After that, officers responded to a local restaurant and bar and found a minor in possession of alcohol there. The case is still being investigated, and police anticipate taking action through the state liquor licensing division.
The minor was cited for possession of alcohol and brought to a rehabilitation center.
Officers also responded to a disturbance at Super 8 Motel where
alcohol was being served to minors. Staff at the hotel was cooperative and assisted the officers in stopping the party.
Daniel Seavey, 21, of Portland was cited for furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol and the following were cited for possession of alcohol by a minor: Ryan Coyne, 18, of Portland; Michael Gray, 20, of Portland; Brooke Dunham, 19, of South Portland, and Paige Payer, 20, of Portland.
Gray was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a
theft charge.
Westbrook Police have received funding from several sources to conduct underage drinking enforcement details and will continue to do so throughout the holiday season in an effort to reduce alcohol-related tragedies that occur at this time of year.
