A 25-year-old Naples man accidentally killed himself by stabbing himself in the chest with a kitchen knife early Sunday morning, following a domestic dispute on Rochester Street in Westbrook.

According to Westbrook Police Chief Bill Baker, Curtis Johnson, 25, stabbed himself trying to prove a point to a girl.

“I’m confident he didn’t intend the result,” Baker said Monday.

According to Baker, three other people were present at the 57 Rochester St. home when Johnson died – another young man and two female juveniles, one of whom called the police at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday to report a medical emergency.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Johnson dead on the street from what was described as a traumatic wound to his left chest.

Baker said he couldn’t release any information about those present because of their ages.

Johnson is listed under the Maine Sex Offender Registry as being convicted for sexual abuse of a minor two years ago. He was sentenced to a year in prison, with all but 90 days suspended, for engaging in a sexual act with a 14- or 15-year-old.

After an investigation of the crime scene, interviews with those present and an autopsy conducted by the State Medical Examiner in

Augusta Monday, police determined that the death was accidental.
