AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says his proposed supplemental budget covering the remainder of fiscal 2011 includes tax breaks and helps the state to pay long-overdue bills.
In his weekend radio address, LePage says his supplemental budget adjusting Maine’s finances through June 30 pays Maine’s hospitals $250 million in unreimbursed MaineCare expenses going back to 2006.
The governor says the proposal also allocates $4.5 million to align Maine’s tax laws to changes Congress made to the federal code in December. LePage says nearly 100,000 Mainers would save money as they file their 2010 state taxes on items such as out-of-pocket teacher expenses, itemized deductions, child care and the earned income tax credit as a result.
Lawmakers are now reviewing the budget.
