AVON, Conn. — Hyde School-Bath wrapped up its dual meet wrestling season Saturday in a four-team battle with the host Winged Beavers of Avon-Old Farms School, Lexington Christian Academy and Class A League rival Worcester Academy.

The Phoenix finished the day 2-1 to complete the dual meet season with a record of 7-6.

In the opening round of the event, Hyde squared off against Lexington Christian, an Eastern Independent League team the Phoenix had failed to defeat in several years. However, the Phoenix prevailed this time 48-34 on the strength of strong performances from seniors Chester Hill (160) and Bemnet Banks (170).

Hyde faced Worcester Academy in the second round, winning 61-12 and earning two pins, a technical fall and a major decision in the first four bouts, with Alec Randall (145) winning 15-0, Scott Georgaklis (152) and Banks earning a pinfall victory and Hill picking up a win by major decision. Also winning were Michael Novas (220), Austin Wang ( 113) and Andrew Martz (138).

In the final match of the day, Avon won two of the final three bouts to pull out a 45-31 victory. Standouts for Hyde included Randall ( 145) and Hill, who both earned major decision wins. Also, Lukas Fischer (195) and Novas continued their winning ways by earning pins.

In the most anticipated match of the day, Banks met his Avon opponent in a matchup of the third-ranked and sixth-ranked wrestlers in New England. The Hyde grappler dominated his opponent, earning a technical fall, 19-3 victory, to improve to a perfect 13-0 this season.
