JACKSON, N.H. — Powered by a ninth-place showing by Kaitlynn Miller in Friday’s classic sprint, the Bowdoin College Nordic ski team placed ninth out of 13 teams at the University of New Hampshire Carnival this weekend.

Miller’s ninth-place finish ( 4: 22.47) was the best for a Polar Bear woman since Katie Matthews earned a fifth- place showing at the 2001 St. Lawrence Carnival and lifted the team to a seventh place finish in the event.

Miller followed it up with a 39th-place finish in Saturday’s 15K freestyle (46:23.7).

Spencer Eusden led the way for the Bowdoin men with a steady weekend, capturing a 24th-place finish in Friday’s sprint (3:45.55) and a 24th-place showing in Saturday’s grueling 20K freestyle (51:27.5).

The Polar Bears are scheduled to return to action this upcoming Saturday at the University of Vermont Carnival at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt.
