NEWMARKET, N.H. — Robert K. Fickett, 90, of Grant Road, died June 11, 2013, at his home.

Robert was born June 3, 1923 in Topsham, ME, and was the son of the late Henry G. & Ada (Davis) Fickett. He was raised in Brunswick, ME, and was educated in schools there. He moved to Newmarket in 1956.

He was a graduate of Metalsmith School in Norfolk, VA, Advance Welding School in San Diego, CA, and Fire Control Technician School in Washington, D.C.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 15 years, and was in both World War II and Korea. He was a crewman aboard the destroyer escort, USS Miles.

For 25 years he was employed as a welder in Shop #26 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, from which he retired in 1984.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian M. (Crowley) Fickett who died in 1974 and by his siblings, Arthur Fickett, Lawrence Fickett, Shirley Fickett, Wesley Fickett, Russell Fickett, Hazel Smith and Lena Fininson.

Survivors include, 2 sons, Robert K. Fickett Jr. and his wife Claire of Center Ossipee, and William M. Fickett of Somersworth; 2 granddaughter, Tamara Murphy of Stratham and Jennifer Fickett of Newmarket; 3 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Brown of, ME; several nieces and nephews.

At the request of Mr. Fickett, there will be no visitation or service.
