FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s soccer team won the 2013 USCAA Soccer National Championships in a 3-2 overtime thriller over Daemen College (NY) in Charleston, W. Va. recently.
UMFK finished the year at 17-1-1, while Daemen, which played a NCAA D-II schedule this season, finished at 10-10.
Freshman midfielder Sadie Gosse of Richmond played in 14 games with two goals and an assist.
Ariane Leberge-Pelletier scored the game winner for UMFK in overtime in the 95th minute of the game as she collected a Brianna Mills rebound and beat the Daemen keeper, giving UMFK their third USCAA National Championship in the last four years. The game was a rematch of the 2012 final which Daemen won in overtime.
