TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade baseball team opened its season with a 6-1 victory over Tripp on Thursday.
Both teams displayed good defensive skills early as the game was scoreless through two innings.
In the third, the Eagles jumped ahead when Matt Kearney came in to score.
Ben Freeman went five innings on the mound. Austin Damon relieved in the sixth inning, and Devin Tobin closed the game in the seventh.
Parker Swanson and Will Kavanaugh combined to catch a great game. Ten players got one or more hits in the game for Mt. Ararat. Hunter Lohr made an solid play coming all the way from shortstop to cover the second basemen after the ball soared through two players. He scooped the ball up and made the play to first for the out.
