PORTLAND — Martin E. Gribbin, 54, of Portland, died at his home May 18 after a long illness.

He was born in Portland on June 9, 1960, the son of Norma (Pettis) Gribbin and John Gribbin Jr.

A longtime resident of the city who attended Portland schools, Martin worked at Ventrex and the Eastern Book Co., among other area businesses.

Known for his independence and wry sense of humor, Gribbin enjoyed reading and movies. And he loved rock ‘n’ roll, whether it was live music at a local club or he was listening to it at home.

He is survived by his mother, Norma M. Gribbin; his siblings, Thomas Gribbin, Kathleen Neidig, Steven Gribbin, Christopher Gribbin and John Gribbin, all of Portland; and his nieces and nephews, John and Marie Neidig, and Allison, Chelsea and Daniel Gribbin.

Visitation and a celebration of Martin’s life were held May 22 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, in Portland. Burial was to be private.
