Both teams presented solid pitching in the matchup, and Biddeford coach Ray Magnant felt Scarborough’s arms were the difference.
“(Scarborough) has very good pitchers. They kept us off balance, we stayed aggressive … it was a pitcher’s duel. We got a few hits there in the beginning but their pitches did a good job of keeping us down,” said Magnant.
Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Red Storm would get consecutive singles from Maggie Murphy and Chloe Griffin, with Griffin’s bringing in the tying run.

Biddeford scored all three of its runs in the top of the first inning.
Erin Martin led the game off with a single, followed by a double from Kirsten Lebreux. Brook Davis would later clear the bases with a three-run home run to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Scarborough got its first run in the second off a sacrifice ground out by Scouville, followed by another in the sixth with another Scouville RBI.
The Red Storm had runners on second and third in the sixth inning, however the Tigers would get the next three batters out escape the jam.
“They played great defense there, they didn’t panic, they hung in there and stayed aggressive and everyone did a good job of getting out of that inning. That was a good inning for us,” said Magnant.
Although the Tigers left with a loss, Magnant believed there was plenty of value to take from Friday’s battle.
“Any time you play Scarborough for seven innings and take a lead into the seventh is huge. It was big for them … we put a little fear in Scarborough. I think this was just one of those classic Biddeford-Scarborough games … very good,” said Magnant.
With the playoffs approaching, Magnant hopes his team’s bats will come up big.
“The biggest adjustment we need to make is when we get runners on we need to make the big hits. That’s one thing I’ve noticed, if we can get runners on and get the big hits that would be huge, we can’t keep leaving runners on base.”
Lebreux took the circle for Biddeford, pitching seven innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with a strike out.
Abbie Murrell got the start for Scarborough, pitching four innings and allowing three runs on six hits with six strike outs. Griffin closed out the final three innings, allowing no runs on one hit with a strike out.
