SANFORD — Shirley Prefontaine Alexandre, 83, of Sanford, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at Seal Rock Health Care Facility in Saco.

Shirley was born April 1, 1933, to Arthur and Heliane (Gaudreau) Martineau in Sanford, where she grew up and attended local Catholic schools.

She was a very hardworking woman who had been employed at several places during her life, including Sanford Dress Shop, John Roberts Clothing, Springvale Sportswear and Tennford Weaving, where she worked for 22 years before retiring in 2001.

She had also been in charge of the lunch program at St. Ignatius School, and operated a restaurant in Springvale for a time.

Shirley was a devout Catholic, and had been a communicant of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish. She enjoyed reading, sewing, watching soap operas and going to the lake. She was also an excellent cook, and took pride in preparing wonderful meals.

Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother, and especially adored her great-grandson. She will be remembered as a very generous woman with a big heart, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by: her first husband, Donald A. Prefontaine; her second husband, Roland Alexandre; and her son-in-law, Guy Litalien.

She is survived by: two daughters, Casandra Levasseur and her husband James of Acton and Roxanne Litalien of Biddeford; three grandchildren, Tracey Levasseur of Shapleigh, Jason Litalien of Biddeford and Victoria Litalien of Biddeford; one great-grandson, Anthony Litalien of Biddeford; two siblings, Juanita Patnaude of Biddeford and Arthur Martineau Jr. of Sanford; and several step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
