Throughout the trials and tribulations of his recent condition, Brother maintained his dignity and unforgettable sense of humor.
He was born at home in Wells on Oct. 12, 1936, the son of Lindley R. and Doris E. (Hayes) Bridges, and attended Wells schools, where he loved playing basketball with Cecil Briggs and Donnie Ramsdell.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1957, serving in Paris Island and Camp Lejeune. Brother volunteered for the Wells Fire Department for many years, and drove trucks for Tilcon and then Pike Industries.
Brother was an avid deer hunter, holding the 1957 distinction of Largest Deer in Maine, tagging a 210-lb. buck. He was an avid sports fan who followed the New York Giants and Yankees, Duke basketball, NASCAR racing and Dale Earnhardt Sr. His greatest passion was the flea market in Arundel, where he bought and sold his treasurers with every bartering technique available.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Smith.
He is survived by: his wife of 25 years, Jean Maher- Bridges; four children, Shelley Davis, Toni Johnson and Culley Bridges, all of Wells, and John Bridges of Ogunquit; his children’s mother, Elaine Allen of Ogunquit; two step-children, D.J. Maher of North Berwick and Darcie Maher of Wells; three granddaughters, Marci Haynes, Angella Webb and Abbie Cote; one grandson, Cole Nelson Bridges; four great-grandsons, Ethan and Cody Haynes, Tucker Webb and Nathan Cote; and one niece, Elinor Bridges of Wells.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, immediately followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick. Interment will follow with military honors in Oceanview Cemetery, Wells.
