Linda Bean should resign from L.L. Bean’s board of directors and not tarnish the name of a great company by her ultra-conservative and intemperate political utterances and actions.

I am utterly opposed to Donald Trump and fear he will do great damage to America. Also, I long have been dismayed by Linda Bean’s actions, and I never have, nor will I ever, patronize her own businesses.

But the attempt by Grab Your Wallet to urge a national boycott of L.L. Bean is misguided and completely unfair. The people behind it obviously do not know the facts. I reject the boycott completely and hope others who know the company will also reject it.

L.L. Bean is a wonderful company to do business with, a wonderful company to work for and a wonderful citizen of the wider community. L.L. Bean cannot control the actions of individual board members and should not be judged by them.

Now Trump has publicized the issue, and when he tweets “Buy L.L. Bean,” that’s probably the only time I agree with him. I plan to remain an active customer and promoter of L.L. Bean.

I can only write this letter. Most readers, whether Democratic or Republican, will probably agree with the central point about L.L. Bean. How can this message go to the national public? Perhaps it would help if a group of affluent L.L. Bean supporters placed a full-page ad in The New York Times.
