SACO — C.K. Burns Principal Lila Mitchell has resigned, citing health problems.

In a letter to parents on Friday, Superintendent Dominic DePatsy said Mitchell has left the position. Assistant Principal Patrick Conley has taken over as principal and math coach Carrie Lamothe will be filling in as the assistant principal until the end of the school year.

C.K. Burns educates students from third through fifth grades.

DePatsy said school officials will send out a survey to parents and staff next week to determine what qualities they would like to see in a new principal.

In his letter, DePatsy thanked Mitchell for her service and said he wished her well.

Mitchell wrote a letter to parents dated March 17 stating that she has resigned from her position effective June 30.

“I will not be returning to work, as I need to attend to my health at this time,” she wrote.

Mitchell said she would miss the students, parents and staff at Burns School, who have been like family to her.

“I have enjoyed learning, laughing, solving problems, and celebrating successes with all of you. I will always appreciate the opportunity I was given to be part of such a wonderful learning community,” she wrote.
