PORTLAND — The Maine State Golf Association is proud to be celebrating its centennial this year.
A meeting of a select group of golf courses assembled at Portland Country Club in 1917 to form the MSGA, which today serves as an association of member clubs that span the state.
The MSGA is a charitable organization that promotes junior golf, has a well-established scholarship fund, and conducts the biggest and most prestigious tournaments in the state.
The MSGA will be celebrating its first 100 years throughout the season, including a celebratory gala on May 17 in Portland, the release of a book documenting their first century and other events to be announced throughout the season.
The 2017 tournament season kicks off today at Biddeford Saco Country Club.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
