SACO — Edward “Ron” Ronald Metayer, 87, of Saco died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at The Inn at Atlantic Heights in Saco.

He was born on Dec. 17, 1929 to Edward and Diana (Petit) Metayer in Biddeford. He graduated from Thornton Academy, Class of 1949.

On April 18, 1953, he married Joyce M. Gendron at Christ Episcopal Church. They spent 36 years together until her death in 1989.

In the 1940s he was a professional clarinet and saxophone player, he played in the house band at the Pier in Old Orchard Beach. He also played for the Lee Russell Band, the St. Louis Alumni Band and the Italian Heritage Band in Portland. He served in the National Guard from 1949 to 1961. For a short time, he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He then went to Bliss in Portland before going to Nichols in 1968. He was there for 26 years until his retirement in 1994. He was also a Past Master Mason at the Dunlap Lodge in Biddeford.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Metayer in 1936; and his brother, Richard Metayer in 2016.

Ron is survived by his daughter, Sandra Guay and her husband Larry of Biddeford; his granddaughter, Amanda Charland and her husband Jeffrey of Saco; his great-granddaughter, Avery Charland; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Biddeford.
