AUBURN — Gerard A. Tancrede, 64, a resident of Lisbon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice House in Auburn, Maine, following a brief illness.

“Gerry” was born in Lewiston, Maine, on May 17, 1953, the son of Arthur and Lorraine ( Lussier) Tancrede of Lewiston, Maine.

Gerry grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1971. Following school, he entered the United States Navy and worked as an aircraft engineer mechanic on the USS Independence from 1971 to 1975. He attended CMVTI and earned his electrical license. He worked many years for the State of Maine in a number of positions and most recently as a boiler engineer at the Baxter School for the Deaf until his retirement in 2016.

Gerry enjoyed playing hockey in his youth and was passionate about canoeing and fishing the lakes and rivers of Maine and instilled his passion upon his nephews. Family was very important to him and took his role as “Uncle Gerry” very seriously. He was known for giving the most unique gifts to his nieces and nephews that would instill a love of “science.”

He is survived by his mother, Lorraine Tancrede of Auburn; three sisters, Claire Wright of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Doris Arsenault and her husband Raymond of Lewiston and Jacqueline “Jackie” James and her husband Bobby of San Diego, California; one brother, Normand Tancrede and his wife Lise of Monmouth; also surviving are nieces and nephews, Kristina, Stacy lee, Jeffrey, Alyssa, Carrie, James, Lee, Tyler, Jacob and many great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Arthur Tancrede and a nephew Alex Sasseville.

A memorial service honoring Gerard’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home. Private burial will be held in the family lot at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. till the time of the service at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston.
