Professor to speak on WWI

Westbrook Historical Society will learn about the ending of World War I and Armistice Day when the group meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at  the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

Professor Donald Zillman, a faculty member at the University of Maine School of Law, will speak.

Seats available for foliage tour

Ann McAlpine, spokeswoman for Westbrook Senior Citizens, said this week four seats remain available for the group’s foliage trip on Wednesday, Oct. 3, to New Hampshire. The trip includes a ride aboard the “turkey train.”

Participants will take a motor coach to Meredith, New Hampshire, and then have a turkey lunch on the train. The excursion also includes a mystery stop.

The group plans two other trips as well. A casino getaway is set for Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 7-8, with stops in Connecticut at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.

The seniors will visit Indian Head in Lincoln, New Hampshire, on Sunday, Dec 2.

Walker friends fall kickoff

The Friends of Walker Memorial Library will hold its first meeting of the fall season from  5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Room D at the library, 800 Main St.

Karen Usher of the group said everyone is welcome to attend.
