FREEPORT – Richard P. Winchenbach, 93, passed away on Jan. 30, 2021. He was born on Feb. 22, 1927, son of Walter and Helen Winchenbach, South Portland.

He graduated from Bridgton Academy. He served in the Navy in 1945. He was the president and owner of Portland Rubber Company on Commercial Street for many years, taking over the company for his dad, Walter.

Richard married Phyllis Barbour, from Yarmouth, on June 14, 1952. They were happily married 57 years before her death in 2009.

He was an active member of Yarmouth Winnegance Chapter of Eastern Star, Masons, and the Shriners. He was proud of his active service in the Falmouth Lions Club, serving the community for 70 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Robert Winchenbach, and sister, Priscilla Edgecomb.

Richard is survived by his two daughters, Pamela J. Wilson and husband Brian of Falmouth, and Susan M. Cary and husband John of Cumberland. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Brianna Wilson, Nicholas Wilson, James Cary, Andy Cary; two great-grandchildren, Lillian Marie, Andrew Paul Cary, Jr.; many special nieces and nephews.

Because of COVID-19, there will be no services. Burial will be private at a later date.
