Charles Henry Morse

POLAND – On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Charles Henry Morse, loving husband and father of two daughters and three grandchildren, passed away at the age of 76.

Charles was born on July 19, 1944 in Bridgton to Burton and Gertrude (Miller) Morse. After graduating from Fryeburg Academy, Charles enlisted into the United States Army. He served for 23 total years with two tours being served during the Vietnam War in which time he achieved the rank of sergeant. Charles received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal during his service. Charles also received accommodations for serving during Desert Storm. He served the remainder of his time in the Army National Guard. On Independence Day of 1969, Charles married Annie (Edwards) Morse.

Following his military service, Charles began a career in long-haul and material truck driving. Charles worked for multiple trucking companies over his career, such as Dead River Company and Auburn Concrete. In the early 2000s, Charles retired from the Dead River Company and began his own trucking business, MAJ Trucking, which he named after his three grandchildren. After several years, Charles technically retired, though he never truly stopped working and even had aspirations to return to work this summer.

Charles loved his work and performed it all with a smile on his face. Though he never stopped working, his wife and family were always first on his mind. Deemed a “chatterbox” by family and friends, Charles was always interested in speaking with anyone about anything. He was exceptionally friendly and approachable. Charles was always interested in helping his fellow man, offering his hand wherever and whenever he could.

Of all his hobbies, Charles enjoyed camping outdoors and hunting most of all. He and his wife would use this time to relax and attend dancing competitions with fellow campers. They would go on to win trophies for their dancing. Charles also enjoyed golfing and playing card games with his family. During the later parts of his life, Charles spent the summer months in Maine, staying close to his family and the winter months in Florida with his wife.

Charles is survived by his wife Annie (Edwards) Morse; his brother, Ralph Morse, two sisters Paulette Grenier and Beverly Kyllonen; two daughters Billi jo Austin and Bobbi jo Micucci; three grandchildren Matthew Austin, Angela (Micucci) Hall and Joseph Austin; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
