June Dunnells Ferland

KEZAR FALLS – June Dunnells Ferland, 79, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on April 15, 2021.

She was born in Parsonsfield on Jan. 16, 1942, a daughter of the late Merrill and Sylvia (Clark) Dunnells.

Mom spent her childhood in East Parsonsfield village and throughout her life maintained friendships with many of the people she grew up with. She graduated from Porter High School in 1959 and attended Gorham State Teachers College for two years. She and Dad were married on April 11, 1964, and they had been married for 49 years at the time of his passing. She held several jobs throughout her lifetime, but she was most proud of being a Title I teacher in the SAD 55 school district. She was involved in several different organizations including the Porter High School Alumni Association and the Friends of Par Sem of which she was a founding member.

Mom enjoyed going to Long Pond and Crescent Beach. She played Bingo every week with Merrillyn and made several trips to Foxwoods and the Oxford casinos with Mona. She never passed up a good book, a game of Scrabble (she usually won), a cup of coffee, or a yard sale. She always had a kitty to keep her company. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and had a yearly, ongoing battle with the woodchuck in her vegetable patch.

Mom and Dad spent many hours watching us, and their grandchildren, at various sporting and academic events. The time spent with her family was very important to her. She had a tradition, for many years, of inviting her granddaughters to her house to dress up and watch the Miss America Pageant with her, followed by a sleepover. She and Dad hosted many holiday celebrations and always remarked how quiet the house was after we all left. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and often bragged about them to anyone who would listen. She had a special bond with her only great-granddaughter, Emma June.

We would like to thank Alan and Eleanor for checking on her every day and getting her mail and newspaper. Also, her many family members and her Northern Light hospice team (Bethany, Joan, and Hope) who worked so hard to help her stay at home.

She is predeceased by her husband, Albert “Lefty” Ferland.

June is survived by her children, Julie Locke and her husband Peter of Porter, Angela Taylor and her husband Gary of Porter, Andrea Webster and her husband Bruce of Porter, and Andrew Ferland and his wife Kathy of Melvin Village, N.H.; sisters, Merrillyn Stanley of East Parsonsfield and Mona Smith and her husband Steven of Cornish; grandchildren, Alexandra Locke (Peter Cordova Jr.), Dominic Locke (Jacklyn Holmes), Courtney Taylor (Tylor Libby), Jeffrey Taylor (Kara Singleton), Erica Webster (Drew Durgin), Haley Webster (James Marion), Molly Ferland, Jacob Ferland, Lillian Ferland, and Gabrielle Ferland; great grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Cooper, and Bowden; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday April 24, from 10 a.m.– 12 p.m., noon, at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., in Cornish. A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at the Kezar Falls Burial Ground. Please be mindful of COVID restrictions and mask wearing.
