On April 2, you published an article about the upcoming season at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

I love the Ogunquit Playhouse. I love Broadway. Before the pandemic, I saw about 70 shows a year in both Maine and New York. So, I am very sad that the Playhouse has decided to only sell pods of two seats together.

I understand that COVID-19 makes the Playhouse want to ensure everyone’s safety. But asking those of us who enjoy the theater by ourselves to buy two tickets instead of one doesn’t seem fair.

The theater could have interspersed single seats in 20 percent of the rows to accommodate the 20 percent of the audience who don’t arrive as part of a couple. So, in five rows, they could have some single seats. One of the rows could be in the front for those of us with visual issues. Another row could be in the first third of the theater; another row could be in the center of the 26 rows, etc. In one row, they could have two single seats in the center 6 feet apart. In another row, they could have a single seat on the side for those who like an aisle seat. In a third row, they could go back to two center seats.

If I could figure this out, I think they could have, too. I guess I will have to skip the shows this year at the Ogunquit Playhouse and go to a theater that is more accommodating of those who travel or live solo.
