The absentee ballot I cast last week was my first-ever vote, and I was thrilled to rank Ben Grant No. 1 for Charter Commission at large.

Grant is a candidate with unapologetically progressive ideas – things like allowing permanent residents to vote, publicly financing elections and strengthening the position of mayor to give Portlanders more say in City Hall.

Grant is also a candidate who can actually see these reforms implemented. His resume as the counsel to the Maine AFL-CIO, co-chair of Gov. Mills’ transition team and chair of the Maine Democratic Party convinced me that he has the experience to follow through on the promises he is making on the campaign trail. Ben Grant will provide the Charter Commission with the experience to implement successful, lasting and progressive change.

I encourage everyone in Portland to join me in ranking Ben Grant first for Charter Commission at large.
