Matthew David Prager

SCARBOROUGH –
Matthew David Prager, 31, of Scarborough, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021.

Matt was born in Hartford, Conn. on July 5, 1990, the beloved only son of Marie and Jim Prager. The family moved to Cape Elizabeth when Matt was 5 years old, and he attended kindergarten at Pond Cove Elementary School. He graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 2008.

Matt was an independent thinker, fascinated with technology and creative uses of design and color. He enjoyed learning how things work and at a young age dismantled many radios and other devices. When he was fourteen, he built his own computer. Matt was an avid photographer using older 35mm cameras to bring the art and science of photography to life in the darkroom at Maine College of Art.

Matt found peace and contentment when he was by the ocean, taking walks along the beach, often with his mom. He spent many hours fishing at the shoreline, shark fishing with his friends, and charter fishing with his dad.

One of Matt’s passions was going to baseball and football games with his Dad, Uncle Bob, and Uncle Rick. Matt’s signature look was wearing a baseball cap from his extensive collection.

He was a kind and gentle soul who throughout his life wrestled with anxiety and depression. Matt will be remembered for his compassion for others who shared in the same unrelenting battle. Now he rests in peace.

Matt is survived by his mother and father; nine aunts/uncles, Sandra Mager, Susan and Bob Goldstein, Paulette Mager, Paul and Lisa Mager, all of Ohio, Rollinde Prager, of Arizona, and Jan and Ron Pass, of Missouri; nine cousins, Rachel Goldstein, Sara, Amanda and Jessica Mager, Jessica Schulman, Tracey Goodwin, Michael and Daniel Pass, and Elizabeth Schott; and, Carley Flagg, who Matt dearly loved.

A celebration of life service and viewing will be held at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., chaplain service and sharing 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. A luncheon will immediately follow. All are welcome to join Matt’s family in the Hobbs Hospitality Center.
