Jeanette Marie Henry

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – On Oct. 27, 2021, Jeanette Marie Henry, 80, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away at home with her husband of 58 years by her side.

She was born on March 1, 1941 to Dean and Virginia (Ordway) Padgett in Blossburg, Pa. and graduated from Elmira Free Academy in Elmira, N.Y. Jeanette met Everett Henry while working at the Booth Memorial Hospital in Flushing, N.Y. and were married in 1963. They moved to Maine the following year and raised three children at their home in Old Orchard Beach.

Over the years, Jeanette worked for W. T. Grants, Casco Bank, Unum, and L.L.Bean. She enjoyed her many years as the director of the senior center at The Salvation Army Portland and later worked as their social services coordinator before retirement. She was a also a past member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Jeanette was the Assistant Flotilla Staff Officer for Public Education and taught safe boating classes at local schools.

Whether it was babysitting her grandchildren or giving a hug to a stranger she just met, Mrs. Henry was warm and caring. She never hesitated to encourage and support everyone she met. Jeanette enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family. She never missed an opportunity to bake a chocolate sheet cake for birthdays or banana bread whenever anyone said they were coming to visit. In later years she loved traveling to Disney World with her husband.

Jeanette is predeceased by her parents; brothers William, Lester, Russell, Arthur, sisters Joyce and Beverly; and grandson, Ryan Henry.

She is survived by her husband, Everett L. Henry II, of Old Orchard Beach; brother, Roger Padgett of Watkins Glen, N.Y.; sons Everett L. Henry III and wife Patricia of Needham, Mass., Kevin Henry and wife Bonnie of Saco, and daughter, Jennifer and husband Eric Reiter of Scarborough; grandchildren Chad, Joshua (Olivia), Rachel, Nathan (Raissa), Sarah, and Nicole; and great-granddaughter, Faye. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 12 to 1 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 297 Cumberland Ave., Portland, with the service to follow starting at 1 p.m.
