SENECA, S.C. – Margaret Nelson Hillock, 72, cherished wife of Jerry Hillock of 114 South Oak Pointe, Seneca, S.C., died Friday, July 22, 2022. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Margaret was the daughter of the late Walter and Carolyn Gable Nelson.
She is survived by her sons, Walter Brent Hillock (Tina) of Greer, S.C. and Jared Nelson Hillock (Leah) of Roswell, Ga.; sisters, Ann Eisenhauer (Phil) and Nell Pressley (Paul); and five grandchildren, Seth, Callie, Asher, Ella and Emmy.
Margaret graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. After achieving a master’s degree at Columbia University in NY she began her career as a dental hygiene instructor at Westbrook College in Maine where she met Jerry. Having already accepted a contract to teach at UNC she moved back to North Carolina. After a year Margaret and Jerry were married and she began her adventure as the wife of a pilot.
As accomplished as she was, Margaret’s life was dedicated to what was most important to her – faith, family and serving others. Margaret quietly witnessed her faith in her actions. She supported Jerry’s career and raised two wonderful sons (often as a single mom in Maine while Jerry was away on flight trips) and spent her “spare” time helping others.
After a five-year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia, Margaret passed peacefully at her home. Special thanks to family, friends, neighbors and Interim Hospice who joined Margaret and Jerry on this journey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday July 27, 2022 at Saint Mark UMC. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment at MJ Dolly Cooper in Anderson, S.C. will be held at a later date.
