Knights host blood drive

The Westbrook Knights of Columbus Council 2219 will host an American Red Cross Blood drive from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, in St. Hyacinth’s Church Hall (St. Anthony Parish) on Brown Street.

Call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS or log on to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code KOCWestbrook to schedule an appointment.

Russ Champagne of the Knights said in an announcement that appointments are “very light” and would be appreciated.

Concert schedule

No Guts No Glory will be in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Valle Square. Doubting Gravity will perform at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Riverbank Park. Dennis Marrotte, commander of American Legion Post 62, reminds everyone that the post and Westbrook Lions host a fundraising barbecue during the park concerts.

Program reminder

Local historian Ken Moody will give a program titled ‘Tragedy In The Skies” when Highland Lake Grange meets at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at 9 Hardy Road.

It’s a story of four Westbrook men who joined the Army Air Corps and the World War II disaster they experienced.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

50 years ago

The American Journal on Aug. 9, 1972, reported that Marie Sampson of the Westbrook Senior Citizens Club was taking reservations for members who wished to attend Senior Citizens Day at Scarborough Downs.
