Janet Aube Currier

SACO – Janet Aube Currier, of Saco, formerly of Westbrook, passed away on Aug. 13, 2022.

Janet was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Westbrook, to Irene and Philip Aube. She was the wife of William Currier, married on June 24, 1947, in Westbrook, and celebrating their 75th anniversary this year.

She was educated in Westbrook Schools and graduated from Westbrook High School with honors. For several years she worked for the S.D. Warren Company, leaving to start a family.

Her favorite thing in life was being a wife and mother, in which she took much pride. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary’s Church (now St. Anthony’s) in Westbrook, where she served as parish secretary and secretary for the Parish Council. She also taught CCD for several years.

Over the years Janet worked for many charity drives. She was a former member of the Cheverus Mother’s Club as well as the Westbrook Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Pride’s Corner Garden Club. Over the years she crocheted 663 baby blankets for the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, where she was known as the “Afghan Lady.” She was awarded a special certificate and a personalized brick in the courtyard.

Janet and her husband enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries and throughout the US. Her favorite destination was Paris, France. She was an avid reader and enjoyed painting and crafts. Her happiest times were spent at their cottage at Little Sebago Lake with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her son Vice Admiral John P. Currier (USCG), her parents, her beloved sister Pauline Aube Jorgensen, and her brother Robert Aube.

Survivors include her husband William, sons James Currier; CEO Flowstar Corp., Gilroy, Calif. (Fort Mojave, Ariz. – wife Edwina)] and Glenn Currier, MD (Tampa, Fla.); daughter-in-law Mary Jane Currier (Scarborough), sister Irene Patterson (Lewiston), nine beloved grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

An hour of visitation will be held at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, Westbrook on Sept. 8, 2022, from 9-10 a.m., with a funeral Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
