Eleanor Mary Albert

OTISFIELD – It is with great sadness and disbelief that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Eleanor Mary Albert, 67, of Otisfield, Maine. Eleanor passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2024, from a broken heart.

Eleanor was born April 21, 1957, to Frederick and Cora Dobson, in Portland. One of what would become a family of 11 children, Eleanor was very proud of her title of “the baby girl”; she was a Daddy’s girl always. She attended local schools, graduating from Portland High School in the class of 1975. For most of her life, Eleanor planted her roots in Portland, never straying too far from the Presumpscot Street Homestead.

Eleanor worked various jobs throughout her life, including bartending, and working at B&M Baked Beans and Barber Foods, before settling into her place at Portland Housing Authority. Here she found her passion- helping the less fortunate. The team at PHA quickly became another extension of her family. Eleanor took early retirement in 2017, so she could care for two of her grandsons following the untimely death of her daughter.

To know, Eleanor was to love her. Her fiery spirit, kind heart and unwavering support were felt by all that knew her. She was vivacious and outgoing, and always the life of the party. She was the friend that listened, a courageous warrior, the keeper of your secrets, and the strongest woman you ever met.

Eleanor’s joy in her life came from her family. She was a dedicated daughter, mother, sister and friend. Whether it was a simple cup of coffee and a game of cards,a Sunday at Grammy and Bampie’s, a trip to the lake, or a full on Dobson family party, Eleanor was always happiest when she was with her family. But her favorite title was Mom. Her kids always came first and we knew it. We always knew that we had a safe place in her arms. And that she would be there to support us no matter what. The only thing she loved as much as her kids, was her grandchildren. She was an amazing Nana and made each of the 16 grandkids feel like they were the only one.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Cora Dobson, and her daughter Daralyn Albert. She is survived by her children, Pam and her partner Will, Ellyse, Brandi, Destini, Gabe his wife Marissa; her grandchildren Shawn his wife Samantha, Ernie, Aubrey, Ryan, Jamar, David, Dreanna, Chelsea, Lucy, Nivanna, Audrey, Ja’Vion, Riley, King, Owen, and Legend; and her siblings, Peter and his wife Linda, Pamela Ouellette, Cyndi and her husband Bill DuBeau, Ralph and his wife Donna, Stanley, Jo-Ann and her husband David Sanborn, her baby brother Michael, and Peggy Theriault; and too many nieces and nephews and cousins to list, but they all meant the world to her.

At Eleanor’s request, we will not be having a funeral. Instead, we will have a “Party” to celebrate her life at the Moose Lodge in Scarborough on June 30, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please join us to share and laughs and memories, just the way Eleanor would want us to. And in her memory please continue to spread the love, kindness and acceptance that she always did.
