A 1-month-old boy died at the hospital five days after Biddeford fire and police departments responded to a call that he was unresponsive.

The baby was transported from Emery Street in Biddeford to Southern Maine Hospital on June 15, then to Maine Medical Center, where he died on June 20, the Maine State Police said.

As is “standard protocol,” state police are investigating the death because of the age of the baby, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy the next day, but police said the baby’s cause and manner of death are being withheld at this time.

The boy’s name is not being released because it “could compromise the integrity of this investigation,” Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
