VOLUNTEER

Help support families in Maine by volunteering at the Portland Press Herald Toy Fund. Volunteers unpack, sort and bag gifts according to the age and gender of each child. Some people have volunteered for the toy fund for decades.

Volunteers must be over 18 and work usually begins in mid-November. Volunteers generally work 3-6 hours on days they are available.

JOIN A FUNDRAISING EFFORT

Since the early days, groups of people have gathered together to raise money for the toy fund. Friends challenge each other to make a donation. Relatives pool their resources to donate as a family or in memory of a loved one. Community groups hold bake sales or benefit concerts. For many years, fifth-graders at Brown Elementary School in South Portland have held a penny drive for the cause.

Donors names and dedications are published in the newspaper, at pressherald.com and on Facebook.

However you may help, let us know so that we can share your event. Every little bit helps bring joy to children from York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Androscoggin counties!
