PORTLAND — Mark White, Willie Joy, Dan Thomas and Kayle Hamilton each had three goals as the University of Southern Maine routed St. Joseph’s 18-5 in a men’s lacrosse game Wednesday at Deering’s Memorial Stadium.

Southern Maine (2-2) outshot the Monks 56-27, led in ground balls 38-32 and won 21 of 27 faceoffs.

Kody Peckham and Dylan Chase each had two goals for the Monks (3-3). Christopher Driscoll made 10 saves.

 

WENTWORTH 9, UNE 8: Mark Pappas scored three goals as the Leopards (2-2, 1-1 Commonwealth Coast) defeated the Nor’easters (4-3, 1-1) at Boston.

Dylan Thomas had three goals and Tyler Thomas added a goal and an assist for UNE.

BOWDOIN 9, MORRISVILLE 0: Tricia Thibodeau pitched a one-hitter and the Polar Bears (10-5) defeated the Mustangs in five innings at Clermont, Fla.

Caroline Dewar was 4 for 4, Clare Ronan and Kara Nilan each had two hits and Toni DaCampo hit an inside-the-park home run for Bowdoin.

 

BOWDOIN 2, MIDDLEBURY 1: Kara Nilan singled home Lauren Coven with the winning run in the seventh inning as the Polar Bears (11-5) edged the Panthers at Clermont, Fla.

WELLESLEY 8, USM 2: Sarah Schwartzmeyer pitched a four-hitter to lead the Blue (8-3) over the Huskies (0-7) at Clermont, Fla.

Southern Maine’s Sarah Deroche hit a two-run double in the fifth.

 

USM 5, MORRISVILLE 4: Sarah Deroche drove in the winning run on a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning and the Huskies (1-7) defeated the Mustangs (0-6) at Clermont, Fla.

Deroche was also the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and two walks.

Cerise Humphrey had two hits with two RBI for the Huskies.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BABSON 15, BATES 10: Kaitlyn Pettengill scored six goals and assisted on two others as the Beavers (4-2) downed the Bobcats (1-2) at Lewiston.

Joan O’Neill had four goals for Bates.

 

COLBY 15, DREW 5: Amy Campbell scored five goals as the White Mules (6-0) defeated the Rangers (2-5) at Madison, N.J.

USM 19, ALLEGHENY 14: Mary Vaughan scored five goals and the Huskies (3-1) won their third straight, beating the Gators (1-3) at West Palm Beach, Fla.

Jess Knight added four goals and an assist for the Huskies. Rachel Lolley made 14 saves.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S 15, HUSSON 15: Alyssa Marchant had four goals for the Monks (3-0-1) and Shelby Bradford had six goals and an assist for the Eagles (1-0-1) in a tie at Bangor.

BASEBALL

WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT 14, BOWDOIN 2: Stevens Point scored 11 runs in the fifth inning to get past the Polar Bears (9-3) at Winter Haven, Fla.

Luke Regan hit a two-run homer for Bowdoin.

 

BATES SWEEPS HUSSON: The Bobcats (8-3) won the opener 12-3 and the second game 23-7 against the Eagles (7-10) at Bangor.

Chris Burke and Jake Simon each drove in two runs as Bates scored five times in the ninth in the opener.

Noah Lynd hit a grand slam for Bates in Game 2.

MIT 8, USM 1: Aric Dama and Henry Zhu combined on a six-hitter for the Engineers (3-3) against the Huskies (6-4) at Chandler, Ariz.

Mike Eaton and Anthony Pisani each had two hits for the Huskies.

MEN’S HOCKEY

UMAINE: Gustav Nyquist was named to the inaugural CollegeHockey247.com All-American team.

Nyquist, a sophomore right wing, is the nation’s top scorer with 19 goals and 42 assists.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

NIT: Delroy James scored 18 points to lead Rhode Island (26-9) past Virginia Tech (25-9) 79-72 in the quarterfinals at Blacksburg, Va.
