AUGUSTA — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is visiting Qatar and western Europe this week.

The Maine Republican’s office says Collins is part of a congressional delegation that planned visits to the U.S. Central Command regional headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

Collins, a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Armed Services committees, is to receive a briefing from top U.S. security officials on current intelligence and military operations in the region. She is also meeting with Maine military personnel at Al Udeid base in Qatar.

Also this week, Collins is scheduled to visit American allies in western Europe. She plans to return to Maine on Monday.
