The Lewiston Recreation Department, Lewiston High School tennis boosters, the Maine Tennis Association and the University of Southern Maine tennis programs will hold two free clinics on Friday as a lead-in to the Huskies Tennis Open on Saturday and Sunday at the Lewiston High courts. A clinic for children of all ages will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by an adult doubles clinic from 5:30 to 7. The Huskies Tennis Open is a sanctioned tournament with several divisions: men’s and women’s open singles and doubles, mixed doubles, and men’s 45 and over singles and doubles. The Portland Sea Dogs
and the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber of Commerce will hold a Southern Midcoast Maine Community Day at the Sea Dogs’ game against the Erie SeaWolves at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Maine Tennis Association will hold the A&J Open, its first major outdoor event of the season, June 25-27 at South Portland High. Competition will be held in men’s and women’s open singles, mixed doubles, and men’s 35-and-over and 55-and-over singles. The event begins at 1 p.m. Friday with men’s open singles. The Jimmy Fund/Deering High School Classic will he held July 9 at Riverside Golf Club, with a shotgun start at noon. Registration is at 11 a.m. Golfers are asked to raise a minimum of $100.
