HOLDEN — Information collected in Maine will be used as part of the 2010 National Butterfly Count.

On Saturday, butterfly enthusiasts spread out within a 7.5-mile radius of the Fields Pond Audubon Center in Holden looking for varieties of butterflies.

The Bangor Daily News says the varieties most likely to be spotted were white admirals, red admirals, viceroys and American coppers.

This summer marks the North American Butterfly Association’s 36th annual national butterfly count that will be held at locations across the country. The events track butterfly populations in North America.

The counts are usually held in early July.
