AMERICAN LEGION: Jeff Keene went 3 for 5 with four RBI, and Gayton Post of Auburn scored 11 runs in the first three innings on the way to a 13-8 win over Gibbsboro, N.J., in its opening game of the Northeast Regional at Middletown, Conn.
Gayton fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first but got three runs back in the bottom half on a two-run homer by Keene and an RBI single by Scott Ouellette. Keene doubled home two runs during a six-run second inning as Gayton grabbed a 9-6 lead.
Mekae Hyde added a two-run single in the third.
Gayton next faces Branford, Conn., a 6-5 winner over Essex Junction, Vt.
