AUGUSTA — Representatives of an array of resource-oriented businesses and activities are meeting today with Gov. Paul LePage and his senior staff at a Roundtable on Maine People and the Environment.

The event is similar to a Maine Business Roundtable in which LePage participated in November. Those attending this afternoon’s event say they want to speak about the importance of Maine’s environmental laws and programs to their businesses and activities.

Among those on the list of participants are lobstermen, clammers, innkeepers, sportsmen, lumber, dairy and orchard operators.

LePage has voiced concerns about excessive and redundant regulations, especially those that delay and stifle business creation and expansion. Participants say they want laws to be cost-effective and sensible, but not weakened to harm the state’s environment and natural resources.
