PORTLAND — The Maine Association of Realtors says sales of existing homes fell nearly 3 percent in 2010 from a year earlier, but that the median sales price rose during the year.
The group said Thursday that real estate agents sold 10,213 single-family homes for the year, down from 10,486 in 2009.
The median sales price was $168,750, up from $164,000 in 2009.
For the year, Franklin County had the biggest increase in home sales, at nearly 19 percent. The steepest decline, 12 percent, occurred in Penobscot County.
York County had the sharpest increase in median sales price, up 11 percent to $211,000.
In Kennebec County, the 940 homes sold in December was 7.2 percent fewer than the 1,103 sold in December 2009. The $132,700 median sales price last month was 3.2 percent better than the $129,000 median sales price posted a year ago.
