BANGOR — A 19-year-old Bangor man is going on trial for murder in last year’s shooting death of another teenager on a Bangor street.

Opening statements in Zachary Carr’s trial are slated this morning in Penobscot County Superior Court. A jury was selected last week.

Carr is charged with fatally shooting 19-year-old John “Bobby” Surles with a 9 mm handgun in January 2010. The shooting took place during a fight between two groups of teenagers on a city street. Police say Surles was unarmed.

If convicted, Carr faces 25 years to life in prison.
