GRAY — Town Councilor Mark Grover has announced he is running for the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners.
Grover, an independent, is seeking to represent the new Third District, which comprises the towns of Brunswick, Freeport, Gray, Harpswell, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth and Pownal.
Elections for the new districts take place Nov. 8. There are no primaries.
Grover, a software engineer, proposes to limit the power of commissioners, although he says he has no criticism of the current board. His proposals include creating a recall provision, requiring referenda for certain levels of tax increases and requiring financial disclosure statements.
Grover said he would abide by residents’ decisions on a proposed $28 million bond to improve the Cumberland County Civic Center. He is gathering input on that issue and others on his website.
Grover’s term on the Town Council ends in June.
