AUGUSTA — Legislators are holding a hearing on a bill that would increase Maine’s vehicle inspection fees.

Today’s hearing is before the Legislature’s transportation committee.

As written, the bill would increase the fees by $3.

That means inspections on vehicles built from 1996 on would be $21.50, up from $18.50. For older cars, the bill is proposing that fees go up from $15.50 to $18.50.
