BAR HARBOR, Maine — Maine’s cruise ship season is getting under way with the arrival of the cruise liner Maasdam in Bar Harbor.

The 720-foot ship is scheduled to arrive Friday, bringing nearly 1,300 passengers to the resort and national park town. The Bangor Daily News says that kicks off what appears to be a promising season, with 118 cruise ships scheduled to call in Bar Harbor alone. The 175,000 passengers those ships will bring would also be a record for the town.

Maine’s ports overall are expected to draw 330 visits this season by ships bringing more than 260,000 passengers through late October.
