LEBANON — A group of guys with giant trucks are celebrating Maine’s mud season by getting dirty.

Organizer Kurt Zeller says a week of rain created plenty of mud and participants adopted the attitude “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” The event dubbed “Spring Muddervention” was being held today on his property in the town of Lebanon in southern Maine.

About 70 off-road trucks were participating in the events in three 200-foot-long mud pits.

Events included drag racing in shallow mud as well as other events aimed at testing the ability of trucks to handle deep mud without getting stuck. Zeller says one bonus from all the recent rain is that there’s little need to pump in water because there’s been plenty of rain.
